Chocolate Moltens, Easter-Rita's, and oh crap, what did I do to myback??

My Easter started out on a not too promising note yesterday. First I woke up and realized the Easter Bunny must have either gotten lost or just flat out forgot about me. I swallowed my disappointment and hurried to get ready for my session with Andre, only to realize halfway to the gym that he had sent a text a few hours prior that he was sick and couldn't make it to the gym. Thanks iPhone for not showing me I had that fairly important text, again.

Since Bexar was with me, I decided to just join him at his gym for a light workout and to foam roll my left hip which had been pinching and twinging ever since the 10k we'd run the previous day (review of Hells Hills to follow shortly). The first thing I did was grab their foam roller and go at my hip the same way I've been doing for the past year. A few minutes in and as I start to roll over to do my other side, I suddenly can't move. I mean, at all. Needless to say this chick was kinda panicking because Bexar was nowhere in sight.

A few minutes of quietly grunting and grimacing (thank god no one was around me as I'm sure I looked like I was trying to give birth to a cow or something) I finally maneuvered my way into a sitting position and from there was able to grab the bar near me and work my way up. I need to remember to thank Andre for the seemingly endless amounts of super low squats that he makes me do (dubbed "take-a-dump" squats by yours truly because that's exactly what I look like while doing them) cause that was the only way I was able to get myself up.

I found Bexar after walking around the gym looking like I had something stuck up my butt and had him follow me back to the stretching area to watch over me while I tried to stretch out my back. Of course, as I found out later, that was the complete opposite of what I should have done. Mental note for future Katy.

We leave and hit up a Wal-greens so Bexar can run in and grab some ibuprofen and those Therma-care heat wrap things, also apparently the opposite of what I should have done since apparently I should have iced it. I swear, you'd think I was purposely sabotaging myself. As much as I wanted to go home and lay down, we needed to meet my parents for a goodbye lunch since they are moving and we have no idea when we're going to see them again. The upside? (other than seeing my parents) This:

A Chocolate Molten and an OREO Molten cake from Chili's? Yes please :).  And I promise I let the others get in on them too, as much as I wanted them both all to myself.

Once finally at home, I got into bed (i.e. crawled slowly and whimpering, but that's besides the point) with an ice pack under my back and prayed for either sleep or death, I would have been happy with either really. Luckily sleep arrived first so I fell asleep for about 3 hours until, in a half-asleep, half-awake attempt to roll over, I raised my knees and let me tell you, that woke me up right quick! The rest of the afternoon and evening I just laid in bed, watching T.V. and using the ice pack off and on. I also had to call into work, which I always hate doing.

Later in the evening I got a nice surprise: it turns out the Easter Bunny didn't forget about me at all! Turns out he'd run out of baskets so had to improvise and instead leave me an Easter-Rita:

That made for a nice close to a pretty stressful Easter day.

This morning I was lucky enough to snag my chiropractor's one free appointment time so I slowly and carefully got ready and left the house. Stepping onto my front porch, as I was lamenting to myself how great the weather was to go run, I look down and see this poor guy:

He was trying his best to flip back over on his legs and my first thought was, "I know how you feel buddy". So I flipped him over with my shoe and sent him on his way.

At the chiropractor, I got the best news: my back pain was actually a good thing. Normally pain=bad, right? Well in my case, I actually essentially fixed an injury I've had for almost 4 months now! During World's Toughest Mudder, I torqued my back getting over a wall and that led to tightness and some other issues with my left hip (I can't remember specifics, I just know that's where my problem is) which in turn has caused pain in my right hip and piriformis, also causing a lot of sciatic nerve pain down my leg.

Andre's spent the last 4 months throwing me (figuratively) up on the physical therapy table at the gym and making me wish for death (literally) trying to work out the muscles and fascia. So apparently between that and my foam rolling yesterday the muscles that were holding so tight finally just gave up and let go. This caused my back to freak the hell out because it's been holding one position for long that it doesn't know what to do with itself, hence the pain.

The doc did a quick adjustment and now I'm home with more ice and already feeling better. I'm excited, ecstatic really, because not only has this injury finally started to work itself out, but I also feel better than I have in weeks in regards to my CFIDS. I can't wait to get back at it, both at the gym and on the trail now that my desire to run has finally returned after a 2 month hiatus!
